“The practice of Zen offers something simple, direct and accessible to anyone seeking stillness and peace of mind in this busy, frantic world. When we seek and find this peace for ourselves, we then have what it takes to offer it to those around us. The whole of Zen discipline is to make us come alive to the present. When we are sitting, we concentrate on our breathing. Away from our cushion, we are one with our activity.”
~ Zen master and Catholic nun Sister Elaine MacInnes Roshi
At the Davao Zen Center, we view introducing Zen and Mindfulness meditation to the public as a service we offer to the community, regardless of whether or not you decide to continue after your first visit. Our teaching and methods are focused on two principles: providing a venue for personal spiritual development and familiarizing people with standardized Zen training practices, protocols and etiquette.
Welcoming diversity, the practice of Zen is available here to people of any or no religious affiliation, race, nationality, class, gender, sexual orientation, age, and physical ability. The Zen way is open to all who have a sincere desire to try it. We are always happy to welcome anyone who would like to join us.
Interested in Zen? The easiest way to begin a meditation practice and find out if it’s for you is to contact us. Let us help you get started. We’re here to answer your questions about the Davao Zen Center’s programs and to support your practice however we can. Please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’d be glad to hear from you. We offer Zen for Beginners Seminars.
The Davao zen group has regular Sunday zazenkai from 5:30 am to 7:30 am at Tulip St., NHA subdivision, Bangkal, Davao City.
